Global Tipping Points
Global Tipping Points leds av professor Tim Lenton från University of Exeters Global Systems Institute med stöd av mer än 200 forskare från över 90 organisationer i 26 länder.
Global Tipping Points Report lanserades vid COP28 den 6 december 2023. Rapporten är en auktoritativ bedömning av riskerna och möjligheterna med både negativa och positiva tipppunkter i jordsystemet och samhället.
2000-talet har redan bevittnat extraordinära, abrupta och potentiellt oåterkalleliga förändringar i världen omkring oss. Med den globala uppvärmningen nu på cirka 1,2°C över den förindustriella nivån, inträffar massiva händelser som dödar korallrev, Amazonas regnskog lider av torka, stora regioner med permafrost tinar och en del av den västantarktiska inlandsisen kan vara irreversibelt smältande, för att bara nämna några av de tumultartade förändringarna som sker i planetens system.
”Under alltför lång tid har bedömningsprocessen för klimatförändringar tenderat att fokusera på det mest sannolika resultatet, snarare än att utvärdera de största riskerna. Men detta är en bristfällig riskbedömning som gör samhället dåligt rustat för vad som väntar.”
